Micha-Boy De Waal enters the top 10
Since the Jumbo No Fear Vamo Honda team had not traveled to Russia, the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Mill was on the calendar as the first important appointment since the GP of Portugal. After a changeable day, Micha-Boy De Waal climbed to 10de place in the standings, Marshal Weltin is now 11de.
De Waal showed from the morning that he had the speed. In the timed training Micha stayed on pole for a long time and eventually achieved a very strong third time. For Marshal, Mill was an excellent test in view of the Latvian GP because due to a hand injury he had not been able to train with the motorcycle for two weeks.
Despite a lousy start in the first moto Micha-Boy De Waal impressive return. The Jumbo No Fear Let's Go Honda was around 22th position in the start. However, on the tough circuit “De Kuilen”, Micha turned out to be one of the fastest men in a strong field of participants. After three laps he was already sixth and De Waal also recorded the third fastest lap of the race. Ultimately, the driver from Veen would also finish 6th. Teammate Marshal Weltin also had a very poor start. After he started in his 20sth had made systematic progress, the American finished 14thde.
In the second moto Micha had a better start. He was soon in seventh position and maintained the connection with Cyril Genot who was sixth. Unfortunately, De Waal disappeared from the race after six laps with a technical problem. Also Marshal Weltin was unlucky in the final series. A large stone on his glasses not only damaged them to such an extent that he had difficulty seeing, but also the roll-off had come loose. As best he could, Marshal tried to limit the damage, but fortunately due to poor visibility he made a mistake on the waves without causing much damage.
In the standings of the Dutch Masters of Motocross, De Waal and Weltin are tenth and eleventh respectively.
Micha-Boy De Waal, 12de: “Too bad about the second heat, but the feeling on the bike was very good all day! It started in the morning with an excellent timed training. In the first moto I gave a lot after that bad start, but I still came back to 6thde place. I have been able to train well in recent weeks, so I am really looking forward to the next GP in Kegums.”
Marshal Weltin, 20th: “These types of typically Dutch jobs remain quite a challenge for me! Especially last Sunday, Mill was also very tough with many putts. It was also a very physical match due to the heat. After a bad start I was able to bounce back well in the first series until I reached my limit. More than those 14de there was no room. In the second moto I had bad luck with my glasses. It was extremely difficult to drive because I was almost suffocated by the roll-off in my mouth and I couldn't see anything out of one eye. The riding itself was okay, but I have to keep working on my intensity in the first laps.”
The Jumbo No Fear Vamo Honda starts this weekend Kegums, Latvia where the seventh round of the FIM MX2 World Championship takes place.
