Jens van Meer dominates VLM Molenbeersel
Man in form Jens Van Meer ensured a second consecutive overall victory in Molenbeersel. It was a resounding victory for Jens who always built up a big lead. Kenny Janssens and Wouter Van Massenhoven were on the podium in second and third.
As always, MC De Grensduivels, led by father Vanhove, made a lot of work on the circuit, which resulted in a fairly large and beautiful track. In Molenbeersel, championship tests for the Promised & Aspirants, Novices 250cc, Novices 500A, Novices Open B and sidecars were on the program.
At the Inters Open, 31 riders came to the Vlasbrei. Wouter Van Massenhoven took pole, just like last week, followed by Jens Van Meer, Kevin Van Geldrop and Kenny Janssens. In the 250cc Brent Aerden was the fastest in the time training.
Guest driver Jerome Benonit (Mikkola Racing) shot away like a cannonball, but soon had to make way for the regulars. Jens Van Meer took the lead after the first lap and would not relinquish the lead. Clearly the fastest, Jens rode to victory with a wide lead ahead of a regular Janssens. The Racing Center KTM pilot did not have a top start but he had Wouter Van Massenhoven neither. Wouter had to come back after a weak start and was able to recover to third place! Both Roel Geurs (fourth) and Sven Wouters (fifth) laid the foundation for an excellent series with a good start. In the 250cc, Jurgen Bijnens provided the surprise after a super exciting series. The experienced BeTeMo rider beat Rob Konings and Brent Aerden in the final sprint.
Kenny Janssens is often in a good position at the start and in the second moto he was again the fastest. Janssens' empire did not last long Kevin Van Geldrop smelled his chance! Van Geldrop held up well, but in the final phase the oncoming Jens Van Meer was a lot faster. In no time Van Meer set the competition at 20 seconds. Van Geldrop finished neatly 2nd ahead of Janssens, while a lonely Van Massenhoven had returned to fourth place after a poor start. Guest rider Benonit now switched places with Sven Wouters and took fifth place in the final standings.
Like with the 500cc this time Dietger Damiaens, Cedric Grobben and Yentel Martens, we missed Jonathan Banken and Dieter Vromans in the 250cc. The battle for victory was no less exciting! Hoogstraten resident Kristof Scheenen was the most regular in the recovery and thanks to that victory in the second heat - he was fourth in the first series - he also narrowly took the overall victory ahead of Brent Aerden and Rob Konings. Jurgen Bijnens fell due to a poor second heat in which he finished sixth, just missing the final podium.
