Calvin Vlaanderen's super weekend
Especially now that 114 Motorsport is plagued by injuries, Calvin Vlaanderen (21) gave Honda a boost in the MX2. The South African factory rider took his first podium of the season with a 3-3 score. After Teutschenthal, Flanders is sixth in the MX2 championship, seven points behind fifth, Jed Beaton.
Many riders did not understand the typical conditions of the Talkessel. However, Calvin Vlaanderen had more than a good time. Last year he was also on the podium in Latvia with HSF Logistics Motorsport, but even more than in Kegums, Calvin was one of the standouts in Germany.
Calvin Flanders: “It was actually a good weekend overall. On Saturday I already had a great feeling with the bike and the circuit. When I set the first time in timed training, it was also a first for me in the GPs! Things also went well in the qualifying race, I was regular and came third.
In the first moto I could see Jorge in front of me, I tried to overtake him but there were just no places to attack. The second moto was much more difficult. I didn't have such a good start and there were some tough duels with Olsen and Watson. Because Watson kept the pressure on until the end, I couldn't relax. I think I finished the last lap at a heart rate of 200! Of course it is a pleasure to be on stage again. Not only for me but also for the team. Everyone works so hard, it's nice to be able to give something back.”
