The sporting heritage of the Kiezel quarry in Neeroeteren
Neeroeteren was once synonymous with the Kiezelgraven, MC Maasland, Stefan Everts and by extension motocross in general. Following an article in Het Belang Van Limburg by journalist Marc Cornelissen, Kevin Moonen from 'Save the motocross' wrote himself again...
In search of places in the province of Limburg where sports history was written, 'Het Belang van Limburg' visited De Kiezelgraven this week (read the article here). Not so long ago, this circuit was the beating heart of a village with a real motorsport culture. It was home to a thriving club where motorsports could develop, where competitions were arranged at world level.
As is known, very little is left of this pearl of Belgian motocross. Competitions have not been held in the Pebble Quarry for a long time, in fact it was decided some time ago that the site should be restored to its original state. How did it get to this point? In his latest blog post The Soil of our sporting heritage Kevin Moonen - who is familiar with the matter of the Kiezelquarry like no other - looks for the core of the matter. Required reading for anyone interested in motocross. Read the full post here.
