Emil Weckman climbs to third place, progress ahead of Avrie Berry
Although a sick Emil Weckman did not reach his best level, he still completed a solid German EMX125 round. Thanks to a seventh place in Teutschenthal, Weckman now occupies third place in the standings. Avrie Berry rode to her best ever World Championship performance in the third WMX race of the season. Berry tied for 12th and takes another step towards the top 10.
As always, there were a lot of candidates in Germany, 77 to be precise, for the EMX125 class. Emil Weckman placed neatly directly in his group with a third fastest time. Although the two-time EMX150 champion started just outside the top 5, he was never able to advance further. Emil was clearly not his combative self and also finished sixth, almost 25 seconds behind fifth. The second heat had a very similar course. Once again Emil started the initial round in a good position, but progress was not possible. In the end he arrived lonely in seventh place.
Thanks to the guidance of Diga's physical trainer Yente Dourte Avrie Berry has made a lot of progress with her fitness in recent months. The American is now starting to reap the benefits of this. In the timed training, Berry recorded the 17th fastest time, her best World Cup qualification ever.
Despite her mediocre start in the first heat, the KTM Diga Junior Racing rider makes her way to the front. She crossed the finish line thirteenth in the wheel of Mathilde Denis. Just like in the other categories, the Talkessel also provided few surprises in the WMX. Become the front Courtney Duncan and world champion Kiara Fontanesi first and second again, Avrie was now in 14th position until she had to release two positions in the final phase. In the WMX standings Avrie Berry after 3 laps 20th place.
This weekend the KTM Diga Junior Racing team will start in Mölln where the second round of the ADAC MX Masters take place.
Emil Weckman: “Of course it was a disappointing weekend. I know this is certainly not one of my best circuits but I was sick all week. In the second moto I was completely exhausted after three laps, I was very tired and my nose was completely clogged. The positive thing is that I still scored points. Now I am third in the championship, which is good in itself, but the difference with Hofer is already enormous. In itself, Rene could also have an unlucky day like I had in Kegums, but even then... That's why I'm now focusing on second place in the final standings.”
Avrie Berry: “My goal for this weekend was simply to score more points than in the previous match. I scored twice as many points in Teutschenthal so I was happy with that. That first heat actually went well, in the second heat I got tired at the end and lost some places. This is of course motivating and my next goal is to reach the top 10!”
