First Inters scratch podium Mathias Van Hoof
In just his third race at the Inters, Beta-Denicol rider Mathias Van Hoof managed to get into the spotlight again in the Belgian Enduro Championship. This time the young rider from the Kempen not only finished 2ndde in the E3 class, but he also finished 3rdde in general scratch ranking during the competition in Douzy, Northern France! Kevin Gauniaux won ahead of Thierry Wansart and Van Hoof.
This 3rd test for the Belgian Enduro Championship was held together with the Northern French League just south of Bouillon. Two very nice and fast stages and a 95 km connection were on the menu for the 350 riders. Unfortunately, not all Belgian top riders were present because the GP Enduro was held in Spain. That is why this competition did not count for the inters E1 and E2, but did count for the E3 class. Less quantity but not less quality because from the start it was very exciting at the front.
It had rained a lot the night before and the 2 large grass flanks were still very slippery at the start. But on the first test Mathias Van Hoof immediately a 3de time down; to get into the super fast 2de immediately try to set the fastest scratch time, for the established names. As a result, after the first lap the difference between the first 3 riders was barely a handful of seconds. On the third test, Mathias finished third again, just 0.6 seconds behind the leader. The tension at the top of the rankings was palpable.
But in the 4de test, things went wrong twice for the Beta-Denicol rider and suddenly lost almost 15 seconds. “I felt very good on the 2 grass meadows, the riding went great, the Beta prepared by Joramo Motors ran like a bullet and on the fast parts I could make the difference. Too bad about the sliders in the 2de round. I made up for that with 2de to be in the 5th test. In the last test I gave it my all again, but came just 3.5 seconds short of second place. Still, I am super satisfied with these 3de place in the scratch and the 2de place in E3 class at the inters. After the bad start in Mettet, I have also moved up one place in the standings.” said a happy Van Hoof after an 8,5 hour drive in the French Ardennes.
