Coldenhoff wins Flanders championship, Strijbos impresses
Just like last year, the combined 250/500 super final counted for the Championship of Flanders. Glenn Coldenhoff respected the logic and recorded his hat trick. After a poor second round in the Belgian Championships, an eager Kevin Srijbos (Standing Construct KTM) showed his best side. Strijbos came second ahead of Shaun Simpson. Kemea Yamaha's Anthony Rodriguez was the best 250cc rider.
Like an arrow from a bow, Glenn Coldenhoff shot away, this time almost all the top players were immediately at the front. Club pilot Steve Ramon - still getting used to his Husqvarna - also had a good start. Initially, most of the pressure for Coldenhoff came from Simpson. The Scot clearly wants to prove himself in the coming GPs - starting with Matterley Basin - and in Gooik he underlines his ambitions. Due to a mistake on the tenth lap, the Wilvo Yamaha MXGP rider had to let Strijbos pass.
Kevin Strijbos, who was temporarily knocked back to seventh place due to an early mistake, started to get into his rhythm better and better as the race progressed. In the last three laps of the race, 'The Kid' was the fastest man on the track. Although Kevin made up more than seven seconds on Coldenhoff in the last four laps, this was not enough to keep the Dutchman from the title as Flemish champion. An unremarkable Anstie finished fourth. Anthony Rodriguez may not have made a stunning impression in his first GP, but certainly in the Championship of Flanders, the Venezuelan showed that he should be taken into account next weekend in England.
After a bad start, BK250 triumphant Jago Geerts finished eighth, just seconds behind Yentel Martens and Petar Petrov. Micha-Boy De Waal, second in the BC earlier in the day, finished ninth after a bad start.
