Aaron Plessinger dominates AMA250 at Glen Helen!
The AMA Motocross event rages this weekend, after the opening weekend in Hangtown, now continuing in Glen Helen. In the 250 class there were several stories we were looking forward to. Could Zach Osborne win again and what with Rookies like Garreth Marchbanks and Justin Cooper!
In the first moto we saw rookie Gage Schehr take a holeshot ahead of his training partner Aaron Plessinger. It only took him half a lap to get past his enthusiastic and clearly very talented friend. Gage Schehr also had to pass Zach Osborne a little later and then completely disappeared from the right positions. That put Alex Martin and Shane McElrath in three and four. While Aaron Plessinger, Zach Osborne and Alex Martin managed to separate themselves from the field, Shane McElrath had to work to defend his place. Something he failed to do against Justin Cooper and a little later he made a mistake while trying to defend his place against Jeremy Martin. Exit top result for Shane McElrath, as the KTM pilot dropped to ninth place. In the meantime, there was little to do at the front, Aaron Plessinger dominated the race. Zach Osborne fell briefly, but the lead in third place was big enough to quickly sweep this mistake under the rug. Zach Osborne still finished second ahead of Alex Martin, rookie Justin Cooper and Jeremy Martin completed the top five.
The second moto saw another dominant performance from Aaron Plessinger. The Yamaha pilot, however, did not get off to a very good start. This ensured that he first passed Austin Forkner, Joey Savatgy, Jeremy Martin and Alex Martin, who started in the lead. While Aaron Plessinger was doing all this, Zach Osborne was trying to follow in his footsteps. However, the reigning champion and championship leader could not get past the Martin brothers. As a result, he ended up in a tough duel for second place. The Husqvarna pilot even took a little too much risk in the sand rollers to get past the Martin brothers. However, this resulted in the sand rollers biting him hard in the ass and throwing him into the post-game fences. This caused him to lose a position and Zach Osborne dropped from fourth place to fifth, the lucky one who benefited from all this was Joey Savatgy. With the loss of Zach Osborne, only the Martin brothers were left fighting for second place. Finally, it was Jeremy Martin who showed himself to be the stronger of Alex Martin who finished third ahead of Joey Savatgy and Zach Osborne.
With a double series victory, Aaron Plessinger also took the overall victory in Glen Helen, Alex Martin finished second overall ahead of brother Jeremy Martin!
