Thomas Chareyre also wins the second European Championship race in Albaida.
This weekend the second race of the S1 European Supermoto Championship was held in Albaida, Spain. The circuit in the Valencia region, known for its narrow asphalt section and the lightning-fast off-road section, hosted a major event for the third time in a row. However, on Friday there was already a disappointment when SWM rider Mauno Hermunen had a hard fall on the off-road and broke his collarbone. With Hermunen out, it was mainly the Czech TM rider Pavel Kejmar, Markus Class and Diego Monticelli who had to make things difficult for reigning World and European champion Thomas Chareyre in Albaida.
However, in the timed training on Saturday, the Frenchman already showed that he is also the fastest in Albaida. However, Chareyre did not get it for nothing because Pavel Kejmar and Markus Class were not much inferior to the TM Factory rider. At the start of the first race it was Chareyre who took the holeshot and did not relinquish it. Early in the race he managed to build up a lead over the rest of the field. Behind Chareyre it was Kejmar and Class who were at odds with each other. In the third lap Kejmar managed to overtake Class, after which he made no more mistakes and managed to keep the German behind him. Chareyre's lead was no longer in danger and the Frenchman finished first with a four-second lead. Kejmar crossed the line second, followed by Markus Class. Milan Sitniansky and Diego Monticelli completed the top five.
The second race was not much different from the first. Once again Thomas Chareyre took the holeshot and immediately disappeared from the others. Markus Class was in a good position again at the start, just ahead of his biggest competitor Pavel Kejmar. However, in the off-road class, Class made a mistake that dropped him to eighth place. Diego Monticelli took third place, closely followed by SWM rider Edgardo Borella who made no mistakes and was right from the start. While Chareyre got further and further ahead, Class managed to work its way back to sixth place behind Milan Sitniansky. The German Husqvarna rider did not come further, because the gap had become too big to the top five. Thomas Chareyre again took the win in the second race, followed at 8:590 seconds by Pavel Kejmar who has been particularly consistent this season. Third was TM Factory rider Diego Monticelli, who also took the last place on the podium with this third place.
The next race at the European Championships is on June 9 and 10, 2018 at the Poznan circuit, Poland
