Sam van de Ven from Stevensbeek.
Stevensbeek in North Brabant was place 2 last weekend for the MON and the ladies. The fact that the sun had worked overtime abundantly prior to this competition did not bother the organization because the Radio Circuit was in perfect condition again.
Sam is still making progress every week on the Hastenberg-Honda, and took no risks in training to be ready for the heats. As fourteenth, the Honda rider can choose a starting spot before the start of the first heat. Smooth start and Sam dives into the first corners with the leading group. She quickly manages to join the top three and things are moving quickly, but that is apparently not a problem to follow. However, Sam has to slow down after a few laps due to arm pump. In the meantime, a gap had already opened with the rest of the field and the Hastenberg rider was able to finish fourth in the series. Was it the inner fear of running into that arm pump again, or was the focus just off when the starting gate fell at the start of the decisive heat? Who knows, Sam, who should have been ninth, misses her start and has to chase on a much tougher track. The first few laps she can't find her rhythm and it is a difficult race. Yet Sam is dogged and she slowly fights her way into the match based on character and then suddenly things get a lot better and opponent after opponent has to suffer. The black and white checkered flag comes too early for Sam, who was making good progress, but she still manages to cross the start and finish in fifth place.
Every time she has ridden the heavier bike, Sam can say that she is making steps forward. And that is a favorable development with a view to the coming competitions. With barely three full months on the Honda 4-stroke, we can say that it was the right decision to make that switch. Sam is now in fifth place in the championship standings and therefore has everything in his own hands. Sam once again thanks all sponsors, her parents, trainer Peter Huijbergts. Together they are already looking forward to May 20, where the next competition in Son is scheduled.
