Portuguese bad luck weekend for Davy Pootjes
Davy Pootjes (LRT KTM) suffered a setback during the fifth race of the MX2 World Championship in Portugal. Davy had bad luck on both Saturday and Sunday.
It started on Saturday when he had to leave the race in the qualifying heat due to a broken chain. This meant that he had a poor starting position in both heats on Sunday and had to start the race from midfield on both occasions. Also on Sunday he was not spared from bad luck because, riding in eleventh place in the first heat, he had to deal with mechanical problems, which forced him to leave the race. In the second moto he was again on a strong catch-up race until he lost valuable time due to a fall and had to settle for fifteenth place.
The fifth round of the MX2 World Championship was held at the Agueda circuit in Portugal. A technical circuit that had turned into a mud puddle due to the rain in the week prior to the Grand Prix. Nevertheless, the organization managed to prepare the circuit well enough so that the race could go ahead and the circuit was in good condition on Sunday. For Davy, the weekend started with a strong fifth fastest time in training, but unfortunately he was unable to continue this in the qualifying heat due to a broken chain.
Due to the retirement, the rider from Amerzoden had to start completely on the outside on Sunday and therefore had to start the first round outside the top twenty. The LRT KTM rider immediately managed to pick up the good pace from Saturday and fought back to eleventh place. Unfortunately, Pootjes then had to deal with mechanical problems, which forced him to leave the match early. In the second moto Davy had to start on the outside again, but in this moto too he managed to fight his way back from outside the top twenty to eleventh place. Unfortunately, he crashed afterwards and had to settle for fifteenth place.
“This was a bit of an unlucky weekend,” said Davy, “the driving went very well, but it just wasn't going well. Now take the good feeling of driving to Russia.” In the standings of the MX2 World Championship, Pootjes now occupies fourteenth place. The next competition will be held on May 1 in Orlyonok, Russia.
