Five minutes with unlucky bastard Bas Vaessen
With a tenth place in the final standings of the GP in Redsand and a 10th place in the first heat during the Portuguese GP, Bas Vaessen seemed to be just getting into shape. During his home race in Valkenswaard, the Honda 114 Motorsports rider hurt his collarbone. Now he is facing an adductor muscle injury that will probably keep him out for six rounds.
“It's a really horrible feeling, especially because I don't really know how it happened. I felt a bit of pain on Saturday in Portugal, yes. Gradually the pain got worse over the weekend. By taking some painkillers at night I got through the first moto on Sunday well, but in the second moto it actually became a 'survival race' because the painkillers started to wear off. Hence my poor result. On Monday morning I woke up and my leg was extremely swollen. My skin was very red and it really didn't look good, so I immediately went to the doctor.
At first they said it was a second degree muscle tear. This means that the muscle was a little torn and not completely through yet. But on Friday I went back for an MRI and the doctor said it was much worse. It actually turned out to be a third-degree muscle tear. Because the muscle has been completely torn, I am now looking at about two months without a motorcycle. Of course that was a huge disappointment. Overall it's just a super shame because it just started getting better every weekend. I felt more and more comfortable on the bike and we had also found good settings. Now, unfortunately, all that work stops.
That's not only a shame for me, it's also a shame for Livia (ed. Lancelot) and the entire team that works so hard to help me with everything. In any case, I hope to come back stronger so I can show what I'm worth.”
