Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart win the first Belgian Championship of 2018!
Marvin VanLuchene and Ben van den Boogaart managed to win the first round of the Belgian Sidecar Cross Championship today. By coming first and second in the heats in Moerbeke-Waas, team Vanluchene was able to record its very first victory of 2018.
In the first heat there was a holeshot for the Estonian Varik with his Latvian racing driver Daiders, but VanLuchene/Van den Boogaart soon passed by. Varik finished second ahead of Jens Delmotte/Tom Verbrugghe, who kept the Swiss Cuche brothers behind them. The Czech brothers Cermak came fifth, who ended up in the fences just twenty meters after the start and had to play a catch-up race. Santermans/Beleckas experienced a serious crash in the first heat and after the finish they decided to go to the hospital for a check-up and as a result they could not start the second heat.
After the start, the second heat seemed to be a simple job for Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart who took the holeshot from the inside. However, in the first lap they got stuck in a deep rut and had to do a catch-up race that ended in second place, allowing Marvin van Luchene and Ben van den Boogaart to take the day's victory. The Czech Cermak brothers now had no inconvenience by flying into the gate at the start and were on the check rope when team Vanluchene got stuck. They took over first place and won the second heat. Second came team Vanluchene and third again was Jens Delmotte/Verbrugghe, who now had Estonian Varik, who finished fourth, breathing down his neck. The Swiss Inderbitzin/Betschart came fifth.
Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart took the win in the very first BC, ahead of the Czech Cermak brothers and surprisingly Jens Delmonte/Tom Verbrugghe, who were also able to claim this place on the day's podium by finishing third in both series.
The next round for the Belgian Sidecar Cross Championships is on April 29 in Lommel.
