Take 5; Raf Meuwissen
In the cold Gemert I knew Raf Meuwissen winning the first match of the KNMV Open Dutch Championship last Sunday. We spoke to the Limburger who is starting his third season in the 125cc class about the first competition, the KNMV Rookies and the 2018 program.
MXMag: The first race of the season is over. You managed to win in Gemert, how do you look back?
MRI: “Of course I look back on it very positively, the track was hard and slippery but I had a good feeling on the bike. That is important on such a track and the starts were also good! So it was a good preparation race for the first Dutch Masters of Motocross in Markelo!”
MXMag: You will also be part of the KNMV Rookies in 2018, what exactly does the program entail?
MRI: “I am currently at Papendal (Olympic training center) and I train there every day. I also go to school here and I like it very much. Here you have everything a top athlete needs. The national coach (Marcel Hartman) and the KNMV have set up a great program. I am therefore happy that I can work on my goals here.”
MXMag: In recent years you have been part of the team, in 2018 you will do it yourself. How do you like it?
MRI: “This year we are doing it on our own, with a good group of people around me. So far it's all great and everything is going on schedule, I have confidence in the coming season.”
MXMag: What does your schedule look like in 2018?
MRI: “The European 125cc Championship and the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross are the most important. ADAC MX Masters competitions are also on the programme. If the possibilities are there, I will also be active in the ONK.”
MXMag: What is your goal for 2018, when will this season be a success? RM: “My goal for the DMofMX is a podium finish. In the EMX125 I am satisfied in the top eight. The most important thing is to have fun with our sport and enjoy the possibilities we have. If everything goes well, the good results will come too!”
