Quick chat with Dietger Damiaens
Dietger Damiaens was on the entry list for the Dutch Masters of Motocross, but in the end the Belgian champion was literally and figuratively at the appointment in Moerbeke-Waas. He narrowly had to give up Roy Siliën.
“In the Belgian Championships I can ride for a podium, if things go a bit wrong I will ride for a top 20 in the Dutch Masters,” says Damiaens matter-of-factly. Although he had to leave the overall victory to Siliën, he started his BMB campaign strongly. He won the first race in Moerbeke and who knows how the second race would have turned out without the collision with Gordano Natale. Ultimately, Damiaens finished second, just 2,5 seconds behind the winner.
“It was indeed extremely difficult conditions due to the heavy mud in Moerbeke. Of course it's also a shame for the organiser, who can't do anything about the weather. Mud in itself doesn't matter to me, the circuit is the same for everyone. But in terms of driving it is always difficult because it is so slippery and especially because there are so few places to overtake!”
After places of honor in Helchteren, during the ONK in Boekel and a podium in the VLM competition in Lommel, the fast DAM Racing-KTM was now very close to its first victory of the season. “That will happen, no stress,” Dietger laughs. “Compared to last year, the shape is already a lot better. Actually, it is on an upward trend, yes. I want to be at my best by summer. I would like to show something in the Lommel GP.”
To compete with the GP riders, Damiaens will be at the start of the next Dutch Masters of Motocross competitions. He also competes in all BMB competitions and in between he competes in the VLM. The DD64 will certainly not lack competition rhythm!
