MX2: Pauls Jonass continues to dominate.
It's getting boring and there doesn't seem to be an end to Paul's Jonass' dominance for the time being. The Latvian also won the third Grand Prix of the season at the Redsand MX Park. The KTM rider won both heats and remains ahead of Jorge Prado-Garcia (2-3) and Thomas Kjer Olsen (3-4) during the Spanish GP. The best Dutchman is Bas Vaessen, the Limburger is tenth in the daily rankings. The 'title' of best Belgian goes to Jago Geerts, but the Yamaha rider does not get further than seventeenth place.
Henry Jacobi got off to a great start in the first heat and the German narrowly won the FOX Holeshot Award ahead of Conrad Mewse. Jonass does not have a good start, but he manages to make up for a lot on the inside bend. The championship leader manages to take the lead in the first lap. Mewse passes Jacobi who then comes under fire from Prado-Garcia. The Spaniard doesn't get any closer to the Brit in the first 20 minutes of the match. When Thomas Kjer Olsen takes over fourth place from Hunter Lawrence, he goes in the hunt for Prado-Garcia. The 17-year-old Spaniard must find a connection with his former teammate Mewse. With two laps to go, Prado is able to take over second place, to the delight of his audience. Kjer Olsen also immediately passes Mewse, after which the Dane tries to finish second, but that doesn't work! Jonass wins ahead of Prado-Garcia, Kjer Olsen and Mewse. In the final phase Lawrence was able to come close to Mewse, but the Honda rider finished fifth, narrowly ahead of Darian Sanayei. The best Dutchman is Vaessen, the 20-year-old rider finishes eleventh and Davy Pootjes crosses the finish line in fifteenth. No points for the Belgians, Brent Vandoninck finishes 21st ahead of Jago Geerts who finishes 25th.
The crowd goes crazy when Prado-Garcia gets the best start, followed by Jonass, Kjer Olsen, Mewse and Adam Sterry. Just like the previous matches, Jonass wastes no time and immediately goes on the attack and with success! Jonass takes the lead and Kjer Olsen also passes the Spanish fast starter. The Danish Husqvarna rider can follow the leader well during the first half of the race, but when he makes a mistake the redplate holder seems to have flown. Sanayei joins Prado to pass the Spaniard not much later and chase the lead. The Kawasaki rider comes very close, but Jonass has the best final sprint and wins for the sixth time this season. Sanayei comes second ahead of Prado-Garcia and Kjer Olsen. Just like the first heat, Lawrence finished fifth, followed by fellow countryman Jed Beaton! Vaessen is again eleventh and is the best Laaglander ahead of Pootjes (13th), Geerts (17th) and Vandoninck (18th).
The next GP will be on the calendar in two weeks, on the equally beautiful circuit of Arco di Trento!
