MCLB: Occasional participant Grobben wins in Stekene (+ photos)
The first MCLB race of the season was held this weekend in beautiful Stekene, which has a decades-long motocross history. This time the weather couldn't stop anything. The pilots, organization and course were able to withstand wind, rain, snow and icy temperatures!
As the saying goes, one man's death is another man's bread and due to the cancellations in the other federations, today's MCLB competition resulted in a field of participants that could count on some strong occasional participants such as Cedric Grobben, Glenn Bielen, Jens van Meer, Brent Aerden, Bo de Clercq and others.
In the Inters Open class we saw no fewer than 24 inters at the start, a nicely filled gate. In the first heat it was Wietse Brackman who left the starting gate first. The regular MCLB pilot for the Leon Sagaert Husqvarna team, competed with Cedric Grobben and Jens van Meer! However, halfway through the race, after a minor fall, he had to admit his superiority in both. This left the path to victory largely open for Cedric Grobben, although Jens van Meer kept him within striking distance at all times to punish every mistake. However, Cedric Grobben made no mistake and won the first heat ahead of Jens van Meer and Wietse Brackman. Brent Aerden was the strong MX2 pilot in seventh position.
The second round started just like the first, with a holeshot for Wietse Brackman, but this time his reign did not last as long. Cedric Grobben overtook him after just one lap and raced away to victory. Wacko Bracko, in turn, managed to hold off a fast-rising Jens van Meer for second place. Van Meer finished third ahead of Jorne Tytgat and Dylan Verleysen. The best MX2 pilot was again Brent Aerden, now in sixth place!
