Marshal Weltin: good feeling, too little result
The first MXGP of the Province of Valencia brought the best motocross riders in the world to Red Sand MX Park, a well-known stopping place for winter training. Jumbo No Fear Vamo Honda rider Marshal Weltin made steady progress over the weekend but failed to score any points.
The wide and fast track with its typical red soil was also familiar territory for Weltin. After Micha Boy De Waal's unfortunate collarbone injury in Valkenswaard, Marshal was the only one to represent the colors of the Belgian team.
Marshal started his race weekend cautiously. The 22-year-old American looked for a good feeling in both the free training and the timed training. In the very windy qualifying race, things went wrong at the beginning of the race. Due to a fall with another rider, Weltin had to chase. Towards the end, however, the number 56 Jumbo No Fear Vamo Honda got into its rhythm better and better. So he ended up ranking 29thth .
After a bad start in the opening heat, Weltin moved up to 23 on the fourth lapth place. Although he kept pushing, there was nothing more he could do. Marshal crossed the finish line in the wake of home rider Larranaga. Thanks to a better start in the restart, the Ufo rider was quickly able to send his CRF250R into the top 20. However, Weltin lost some valuable places, leaving him 22ndth ended up.
For the 4de GP of the season, the Motocross World Championship goes to Trentino, Italy on April 7 and 8.
Marshal Weltin: “In the qualifying race I finished too far back. As a result, I was actually lagging behind on Sunday. As the weekend progressed, I felt better and faster. I therefore have to make sure that I get into my rhythm faster. These results are of course very frustrating because I finished just outside the points twice. I'm going to evaluate what needs to be improved and we'll keep fighting. Fortunately I am healthy and fit. The season is still long so we have the chance to turn the tide. What was positive: the track was intact, I enjoyed driving and the engine also ran well.”
