MX2: Pauls Jonass easily to Argentinian pole.
The first pole position of the FIM MX2 World Championship has been captured by Pauls Jonass. The KTM rider managed to triumph in qualifying on the beautiful Neuquen circuit. The Latvian managed to triumph with a six-second lead over Thomas Kjer Olsen. Third place went to KEMEA Racing thanks to Ben Watson. The best Dutchman was Davy Pootjes, the LRT rider finished twelfth ahead of the Belgian Jago Geerts.
Jorge Prado-Garcia has certainly not forgotten how to start quickly after a long winter break. The Spaniard gets the best start ahead of Thomas Covington, Jonass, Watson and Kjer Olsen. On the first lap, Covington loses places and Jonass pushes for the leader. In the first full lap the reigning world champion manages to take the lead after which he controls the race. Prado-Garcia is in second place for the first half of the race, but then falls on the waves. Kjer Olsen moves up to second place ahead of Watson. The Brit managed to decide the match against Covington in his favor. Our title favorite, Hunter Lawrence, crosses the finish line in fourth ahead of his Honda colleague Calvin Vlaanderen. The South African did not have a good start but rode very strongly and finished fifth. For a long time, Pootjes seemed likely to finish in the top ten, but the rider from Ammerzoden made a mistake in the final phase. As a result, the 20-year-old rider has to settle for twelfth place. Geerts finished thirteenth ahead of Bas Vaessen, who broke his collarbone on this circuit last year. The second Belgian in the MX2 World Championship, Brent Vandoninck, unfortunately does not finish.
