MXGP: The list no one wants to be on, the injury list!
MXGP Pilots
Glenn Coldenhoff: Overextended left index finger – Start in Argentina
The Dutchman suffered this minor injury in the first match of the Italian championship. This quickly seemed to be over, especially after the fantastic performance in Hawkstone Park one week later. However, the injury resurfaced when the finger was again overextended in the French preparatory match of Lacapelle Marival. Inactivity due to this injury is not expected, so we would normally see Glenn at the start on March 3 and 4 during the Argentine Grand Prix.
Jordi Tixier: Torn tendon in the right wrist – inactivity unknown
The Frenchman, who will compete for the brand new BOS team this year, felt pain in his wrist while riding in Hawkstone Park, as he himself describes. It was then decided to consult his own doctor in Paris and he had no good news for the former MX2 world champion. A torn tendon in the right wrist caused Jordi Tixier this pain. An operation was inevitable to repair the tendon. This operation was successful and JT911 is now in for a long rehabilitation. However, when we will see him back in action is a big question mark.
Tim Gajser: Double jaw fracture – Planned return Valkenswaard
During the last round of the Italian championship in Mantova, the two-time world champion crashed hard. His head and neck hit the steering wheel tightly and he suffered a double jaw fracture, according to the HRC press release. Optimistic sounds speak of a return during the Grand Prix of Valkenswaard in mid-March.
Brian Bogers: Broken & dislocated right foot and ankle – inactivity unknown
During the press presentation of the new Honda CRF250 machine in early December, Brian Bogers broke and dislocated his right foot and ankle in what the HRC press release called a stupid fall. It immediately became clear that this was not going to be a 6-week break and it was going to be ready for the brand new MXGP addition. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. From the last message we could conclude that Brian Bogers was allowed to start light, non-load-bearing training and that weight-bearing exercises could possibly be started in mid-March. Encouraging progress! Although it will take some time before we see him behind the starting gate on his Honda.
Arnaud Tonus: Dislocated left shoulder – inactivity unknown
The Swiss dislocated his left shoulder during the timed training of the preparatory match in LaCapelle-Marival. The 26-year-old Yamaha pilot had to undergo reconstructive shoulder surgery after this accident. This happened on February 20 in Geneva at Dr. Gregory Cunningham. It is currently unknown how long the Wilvo Yamaha pilot will be out.
Valentin Guillod: Broken left tibia and fibula – inactivity unknown
With Valentin Guillod we have another Swiss in the fold. The young man who will compete for Standing Construct KTM this season broke his left tibia and fibula in a crash in training on January 19. An injury that immediately puts a significant burden on his coming season. After surgery and 14 days in hospital, we now have to wait and see how the rehabilitation will go and know when the KTM pilot will see action again.
Max Nagl: Slight elbow injury – Start in Argentina
During the first round of the International Italian Championship in Riola Sardo, Max Nagl had an unfortunate fall. This left him with some bruises, a swollen elbow and also some damage to the ligaments of the elbow. Not too bad because in a final test during the third round of the international Italian championship we saw Maximilian Nagl achieve an impressive fifth and sixth place. Afterwards he was positive about the arm, it will no longer cause a problem.
Julien Lieber: Left knee injury – Start in Argentina
The brand new KRT Kawasaki pilot injured his left knee last season and after an operation he had more than his hands full with rehabilitation. Moreover, Julien Lieber has only been declared fit enough to resume motorcycle training three weeks ago. We cannot really call this lowlander injured, but number 33 will not be fully fit at the start in Argentina.
MX2 Pilots
Jorge Prado Garcia: Shoulder injury – Start in Argentina
You have undoubtedly noticed that Jorge Prado Garcia's name did not appear in any of the preparatory matches. According to our well-informed sources, the Spaniard is struggling with a shoulder injury, which both the pilot and the team prefer to keep as little publicity as possible. This is to make the rehabilitation, the battle against the clock to reach the Grand Prix in Neuquen, as discreet as possible. From what we now know, Jorge Prado will be at the start in Argentina at what percentage of his capabilities is the question that we will get an answer to this weekend.
Simone Furlotti: Wrist injury – inactivity unknown
Italian Simone Furlotti will switch to the MX2 World Championship this year. However, the Italian does not have the ideal preparation, as the Italian injured his wrist on January 8. Ten days later he started the rehabilitation, but the grand prix in Argentina is still too early, although the young man has recently returned to the motorcycle. Valkenswaard therefore seems to be a possible return date, but this is not official.
