Take 5; Mack Bouwense
In Gemert and Boekel knew Mack Bouwense to score very well. The South Hollander was even close to a podium place on the 'Bezuidenhout' circuit. In view of the first match of the KNMV Dutch Maters of Motocross we spoke to the Yamaha rider.
MXMag: The first two matches of the KNMV Open Dutch Championship are over. How do you look back on these matches?
MB: “The race in Gemert was very tough, it was very cold and I had a bad crash during training. Fortunately, I managed to finish both heats in the top ten! A difficult match but fortunately we were able to end it on a positive note. Last weekend in Boekel I managed to finish fourth in the first heat. I finished eighth in the second moto, which could have been more, but a problem with my rear brake prevented that.”
MXMag: Your motocross career was hanging by a thread. The deal with Lakerveld Racing came at just the right time. How did you end up there?
MB: “That's right, I have had a very difficult season. This was mainly due to injuries that kept me sidelined time and time again. I ended up at Lakerveld Racing after people tagged us on Facebook in the Lakerveld Racing post. They were looking for a talented 125cc rider and I was invited during the test day in Gemert. “The riding didn't go very well, after all, I hadn't ridden the bike for three months, but luckily they still believed in me.”
MXMag: I think you always rode KTM. How do you like the Yamaha?
MB: “Of course it takes some getting used to, but I really like the Yamaha! Better than I expected! I am very satisfied with the engine. “
MXMag: What does your schedule look like in 2018?
MB: “Initially we will focus on the KNMV Open Dutch Championship 125cc and the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 125cc. Whether EMX125 competitions will be added will be up to the team boss.”
MXMag: What is your goal for 2018, when will this season be a success?
MB: “To start with, staying injury free for a whole year is by far the most important thing! Furthermore, my goal is to finish in the top five in both the ONK and the DMofMX! Finally, I would like to thank my parents for their support, they do everything for me and that means a lot to me.”
