TBT: Barragan and Searle win in Mantua.
It is #ThrowBackThursday Today we go back to February 8, 2008. The qualifying matches in Italian Mantova have been won by Jonathan Barragan (MX1) and Tommy Searle (MX2). Barragan (photo) led the entire race and KTM colleague Searle followed suit in the MX2 race. Mike Kras rides exceptionally well, he comes in a very good sixth! Marc de Reuver and Bas Verhoeven also qualified for Sunday afternoon's matches without any problems.
In the qualifier, Barragan takes the best start ahead of Josh Coppins, Steve Ramon and Bas Verhoeven. Ken de Dycker crashes in the first corner and he takes Marc de Reuver with him, who later has to go to the hospital for some stitches. Ramon quickly moves into second place, closely followed by David Philippaerts on the Rinaldi-Yamaha. The trio in the lead barely avoid each other, but there is no more changing of position. Coppins is fourth ahead of Tanel Leok, De Reuver is catching up and is eleventh in thirteenth place, followed by Bas Verhoeven.
So Searle takes the best MX2 start, followed by Gautier Paulin, Rui Goncalves, Tyla Rattray and Kras! Paulin closely follows the Brit in the lead, but he is unable to launch an attack. Rattray does this well in the second half of the race at Goncalves and with success, 'Styla' comes third ahead of the Portuguese and Shaun Simpson who also rides a KTM. Kras, riding in the Negaan JUMBO Team, finished a very good sixth!
