Herlings dominates in Lacapelle Marival!
In addition to the last match in the Italian Championship, today there was also a preparation match for the upcoming World Championship in France! As you could expect, there were a lot of French people at the start, but in addition to the local heroes, there was also a very strong field at the start who could try to make it difficult for one Jeffrey Herlings.
However, it was all a waste of effort. The Dutchman quickly showed this in qualifying when he recorded a lap that was no less than two seconds faster than the first pursuer Shaun Simpson. If fans still had any illusions after these qualifications, they were definitely worth it after the first series.
We saw the KTM pilot win the series with a twelve second lead over Shaun Simpson. Fortunately, there were still evenly matched pilots behind him. We saw that Shaun Simpson only just managed to hold on to second place ahead of Clément Desalle. This podium was ahead of Max Anstie, Jeremy Seewer and the “Man in Black” Benoit Paturel.
The man in black in black
The Frenchman, now known as a professional window thrower, rode a Honda with black plastic and black Leath clothing in Lecapelle Marivalle and with Bhir as a listed sponsor on the registration list. The fact that Benoit Paturel rode Honda makes a number of things possible, now with both Brian Bogers and most likely Tim Gajser in the injury hammock. Don't you think so?!
Back to the race, where in the second moto we pretty much got a copy of the first. An impressive Jeffrey Herlings who makes it clear to his opposition that the World Cup may already be lost for them! However, the honor of “best of the rest” was not reserved for Shaun Simpson, but for Clément Desalle. The Belgian finished nine seconds behind Jeffrey Herlings, and ahead of Max Anstie, Harri Kullas and Kevin Strijbos! The latter returned to competition after his broken collarbone about three weeks ago and did so with a thirteenth place in the first heat and a very good fifth place in the second heat!
The MX2 Class, an Aussie party!
During qualifying it seemed like the reigning world champion Pauls Jonass was going for a demonstration in France. With a time that was more than two seconds faster than first pursuer Thomas Kjer Olsen, a benchmark seemed to have been set. In the first heat this demonstration seemed to continue with the Latvian who took the series ahead of the Australians Hunter Lawrence and Jed Beaton with a street lead. But in the second moto Hunter Lawrence managed to switch the momentum with lap times that were clearly a lot faster than the competition, taking the lead ahead of Jacky Martens protégé Thomas Kjer Olsen and that other Aussie Jed Beaton! Pauls Jonass, who only finished sixth, behind Adam Sterry and Brian Hsu, saw the day's victory slip through his fingers like water.
What about the lowlanders?!
In the MX2 class, only Jago Geerts, Bas Vaesen and Lars Greekpoor were in action. Belgian Jago Geerts of the KEMEA Yamaha team did well with a tenth and ninth place, good for ninth place overall. This made him the best lowlander for 114 HRC Gariboldi pilot Bas Vaesen who only recorded a disappointing 17th and 11th place for a 13th overall. Lars Greekpoor finished twenty-first in both heats.
In addition to the aforementioned Kevin Strijbos and Clément Desalle, the 450cc Class also had many other boys from our lowlands at the start. We saw Jeremy Delincé drive a very strong race with a good eleventh place and tenth place, the KMP Honda pilot managed to score a tenth place overall.
Who also recorded a strong performance was Ken De Dycker, the former MXGP pilot managed to qualify sixth and crossed the finish line in twelfth in the first heat. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up in the second heat due to bad luck.
Former French MX2 champion Damon Graulus who made his debut for the JPM Suzuki team did it in his first race on his Suzuki with a 17th and 14th place.
Also present in France was Kevin Fors, he scored fifteenth place in the first moto but did not finish in the second moto. Who also had bad luck was Jilani Cambré, he dropped out halfway through the first heat and we did not see him again in the second heat. Unfortunately no results for Jilani Cambré.
Something that also applies to Glenn Coldenhoff. The Dutchman managed to qualify third, but that was the highlight of his day. In the first moto we saw him disappear from the race after just six laps and in the second moto we saw no GC259 at the start.
