BREAKING: Arnaud Tonus also out of action!
After further evaluation earlier this week, it has become clear that Arnaud Tonus (26) will miss the first part of the MXGP World Championship. A dislocated shoulder, which he sustained during the Lacapelle Marival international competition, was repaired with surgery in Switzerland on Tuesday.
Already during Lacapelle's time training, the fast Swiss fell and dislocated his left shoulder. Arnaud Tonus: “Of course it is disappointing to start the season with a serious injury. I worked hard this winter to be 100% ready and I felt great on the bike. Now I have to adjust my goals and recover in the best way possible. But I have every confidence in the doctors and people I have around me here in Geneva. and I am sure that when I come back, I will be strong and ready to show what I can do. “
“The operation went very well, they fixed his shoulder 100%, so that is really positive,” stated Louis Fosters, Wilvo Yamaha MXGP's team manager. “I spoke to Arnaud yesterday and he was positive about the way the doctors in Switzerland work. That's already good. We know that the rehabilitation will not be easy and will take some time. It is of course very disappointing for him and for the whole team, but we understand that this is part of the sport and we will fully support Arnaud.”
Erik Eggens, Yamaha Motor Europe's MX Racing Manager: “It is a shame that we cannot start the 2018 MXGP season with Arnaud. He looked very fast in preparation. Everything was on track for a fantastic season. In what seems like a split second, the start of the season is already over for him. But this is something that we know is part of the sport from time to time.”
A replacement driver will not be sought for the period of Tonus' absence. As a result, Wilvo Yamaha MXGP will start the season with Shaun Simpson en Jeremy Seewer. At the moment it is still very unclear when Tonus can return. MXMag wishes Arnaud Tonus a speedy recovery and good luck with his rehabilitation.
