AMA: Josh Hill wins, sick Plessinger remains leader
Last week I knew Justin Hill to take his first podium place with the Suzuki. In San Diego, the 22-year-old rider managed to take his first victory for Joe Gibbs Racing! The reigning champion won round six of the MonsterEnergy AMA Supercross Championship 250F WestCoast. In the Petco Park expectant Adam Cianciarulo (photo) second for rookie Chase Sexton. Joey Savatgy and therefore comes closer to the leader Aaron Plessinger who had to settle for seventh place due to illness.
In the final, Savatgy gets the best start ahead of Hill, Shane Mcelrath, Dakota Alix and Cianciarulo. It quickly becomes clear that Cianciarulo is looking forward to it because he quickly works his way up to second place! On the first full lap the Kawasaki rider takes the lead from teammate Savatgy. Not a good start for Plessinger who comes tenth from the first round. Hill then tackles Savatgy, who then comes under pressure from Sexton. After almost five minutes the Geico Honda rider takes over third place. The leader has had a maximum lead of two seconds, but then Hill comes back and little by little he nibbles away at the lead. The 21-year-old leader does not easily give in and that means that Hill cannot really attack. With less than five minutes of the match left, fifth man Plessinger falls. At the same time, Hill attacks for the lead, Cianciarulo struggles but loses this match. In the closing stages of the race, Hill distances himself, bringing Suzuki another 250F Supercross victory after almost five years. The Japanese brand's last victory was won by Blake Wharton, who won the Supercross in Houston on April 6, 2013.
