AMA: Aaron Plessinger takes the win again.
The third victory of the season is a fact Aaron Plessinger. The Yamaha rider has won the fifth race of the year MonsterEnergy AMA Supercross 250F West Coast won. In Oakland Plessinger successfully defended the 'Redplate'. Joey Savatgy was tweed in front of almost 49.000 spectators and Justin Hill (photo) came third. The reigning champion switched to Suzuki during the past 'winter break' and seems to have found his niche. Just one day before Shane McElrath, he did not get further than fifteenth place and is 19 points behind leader Plessinger in the standings. Savatgy occupies second place, he has only eight points less than Plessinger.
In the final, which lasts 15 minutes and a lap, Alex Martin takes the best start ahead of Christian Craig and Savatgy. There are immediate problems for McElrath who comes out of the first corner last! On the second full lap, Craig takes the lead while Plessinger works his way into the top five. Trouble for Adam Cianciarulo who falls after Dakota Alix and Phil Nicoletti collide. The Star Racing Yamaha goes like a fire brigade and after almost six minutes of racing he manages to take over third place from Savatgy. Exactly one lap later, Martin also has to make way for the leader in the standings. Craig still has a lead of more than three seconds over Plessinger, but he is 'onfire' and manages to connect. With just under five minutes on the clock, Craig makes a mistake that stalls him and drops him back to fourth place. The duel for second place is between Savatgy and Hill who passes his former teammate. It's a great fight that brings the duo even closer to the leader! Savatgy goes on the attack just before the start of the final lap and takes over second place.
