SX: Iker Larranag-Olano takes his second title.
For the second time in his career Iker Larranaga-Olano won the ADAC SX2 Cup. The Spaniard (photo) was in Dortmund second behind during the annual Supercross in the Westfalenhallen Julien Lebeau. The Frenchman was stronger but Larranaga-Olano managed to score to secure the title. In the SX1, no one could compete Tyler Bowers, he also managed to dominate the final during the second day. Dominique Pascal Thury brought the crowd back to their seats by outpacing former GP rider Nicolas Aubin. Jens Getteman qualified for the final and the Belgian finished ninth.
Bowers has already won the title, but the American's hunger has not yet been satisfied. He has set his sights on the 'King of Dortmund' title and that is certainly achievable. The Kawasaki rider takes the best start and then takes control of the race. Thury starts second but moments later sees Florent Richier pass. After eight laps the Frenchman makes a mistake, giving Thury second place. Aubin can also pass by his compatriot, after which this sentence aims at Thury. The Husqvarna rider feels the tension increasing, but he doesn't bend! The German comes second ahead of Aubin and Yannis Irsuti! On his 250F he falls short time and time again at the start, but with his riding qualities he manages to steal the hearts of the fans. Irsuti finished fourth ahead of Richier. Getteman immediately managed to qualify for the final, the rider from Welle finished ninth. Bram van den Hoek unfortunately crashes in the last chance, while Jeffrey Meurs fails to qualify for the evening program.
If Lebeau wins, third place will be enough for Larranaga-Olano. The Husqvarna rider is clearly tense and rides less strongly than during the races in Stuttgart and Chemnitz. Lorenzo Camporese gets the best start in the final ahead of Lebeau and Gradie Featherstone. In the first corner things go wrong for Adrien Malaval and Dylan Walsh, the teammates crash and have to chase while Larranaga started the race in fifth position. In the second laps Lebeau takes the lead and wins with a nice lead. Larranaga needs some time to pass Calvin Fonvieille and moments later Camporese and Featherstone also struggle. When second place is in hand, the Diga Procross rider gets into his rhythm and steers to a safe second place! Malaval comes back very strong and finishes third just ahead of Walsh and Camporese.
In the 125cc, Mario Lucas Sanz is too strong for the other riders. The Spaniard needs four laps to pass fast starter Magnus Smith, but then he manages to win by a wide margin. Smith comes second before Bo de Clercq becomes dangerous for Smith in the final phase but makes a mistake himself. This places the Belgian third while Roel van Ham cannot play after a shoulder injury sustained earlier in the afternoon.
The title battle between Carl Ostermann and Paul Bloy was particularly exciting. Both men started the last match of this championship with 102 points. Bloy took the best start ahead of Ostermann who seemed unable to keep up with the pace in the early stages. However, halfway through the match he can join and then immediately start the attack. With success because Ostermann takes over the lead, wins the final and with it the title.
