SuperEnduro: Could Blazusiak please the Polish crowd?
Last Saturday evening the SuperEnduro World Championship got underway again in Krakow, Poland. The large Polish audience could already look forward to the return of local hero Taddy Blazusiak, who returned to competition after a sabbatical year.
However, in the first round of three, it was not at home pilot Blazusiak who came out on top. The Pole battled for the lead on the very challenging and technical course with his KTM teammate Cody Webb. It was the American who managed to take the lead on the first lap, but after a few laps had to relinquish the lead to the ever-popular Blazusiak. However, this could not give the fans what their hearts desired, because three laps before the end, Cody Webb took back the lead and never relinquished it. Taddy Blazusiak finished a close second ahead of Husqvarna pilot Alfredo Gomez, Manuel Lettenbichler and Billy Bolt.
The second heat started with Alex Salvini who managed to take the holeshot. However, it was Taddy Blazusiak who laughed the loudest. He saw his strongest competitors; Cody Webb and Colton Haaker miss out on the opening lap, while he quickly took the lead from Alex Salvini. It seemed that victory could no longer escape him. However, SuperEnduro debutant Billy Bolt thought differently. The Briton made progress round after round and quickly learned the tricks of the special trade, only to deprive the home favorite of his victory in the penultimate round. Billy Bolt immediately won his first round victory in the Superenduro, ahead of living legends Taddy Blazusiak and Manuel Lettenbichler. Cody Webb finished in fifth place, Colton Haaker only eighth.
Could the Polish favorite finally claim that series victory in the third heat? The answer was sobering. Because after a holeshot and leading all laps with the exception of one, it was not Taddy Blazusiak who won this third moto, but Cody Webb. The American managed to pass his Polish teammate in the last lap. TB111 finished second for the third time that evening, this time ahead of Colton Haaker.
With three second places in the heats, Taddy Blazusiak (17pts-17pts-17pts) was crowned the winner of the event. The home crowd was still allowed to go crazy for his hero, who immediately showed upon his return that he had not forgotten anything. In the daily rankings he remains ahead of KTM teammate Cody Webb (20-11-20) and Billy Bolt (11-20-13)
