Evgeny Bobryshev chooses the way forward with Arenacross!
Ex-GP winner and former HRC Honda factory rider Evgeny Bobryshev did not find a suitable MXGP team for the new World Championship season. However, Bobby has not given up, as the fast Russian will compete for RFX Suzuki in the British Arenacross and the Arenacross World Tour!
The Russian is only 30 and has finished 3rd in the last three yearsde, 5de and 11 in the World Cup. During that time he also achieved 9 podium finishes. Unexpectedly, the official Honda - for which Evgeny has been riding since 2011 - decided not to renew his contract. That was a result of the restructuring that the Japanese team implemented late this summer.
Bobryshev has since been linked with a possible place at Yamaha and also the new BOS KTM team for which Jordi Tixier rides. Unfortunately, the best positions within the factory team and the top satellite teams had already been occupied for a long time. The fact that both Suzuki - for the first time in three decades will not be present with a factory team - and the discontinuation of 24MX Honda make the places even scarcer, made the situation all the more difficult.
In the end, Evgeny found a very interesting alternative. Bobryshev will start on January 6 in the first round of the British Arenacross Championship with RFX Suzuki. As a teammate of Angelo Pellegrini 'Bobby' will ride all five rounds of the UK tour and all three rounds of the Arenacross World Tour. We see the sympathetic Russian working close to home twice, in Hasselt on March 3 and in Dusseldorf on March 10.
Through his agreement with Suzuki UK and RFX Suzuki, Bobryshev will compete in the Maxxis British Championship and the Michelin MX Nationals in addition to the Arenacross. “I have known Neil Prince for a long time because he was the team manager of CAS Honda in 2010. So it will be great to work with him again. The races in Great Britain are very different from the GPs because everything is held on one day, but I am really looking forward to that! Normally we will also participate in a few GPs, which is important to remain active at the highest level.” Bobryshev told our colleagues at MX Vice that there are currently 7 MXGP rounds.
And those who are concerned about Bobryshev's supercross skills are reminded of his victory in the SX of Hardenberg-Venray in 2011 and in 2010 he also rode in the British Arenacross. Moreover, the dashing ex-GP winner has grown in recent seasons, thanks in part to Jean-Michel Bayle, into a more complete and smoother rider than before. To be continued!
