Renthal recalls clip-on handlebars due to potential crack formation
Renthal has announced a global recall of two models of its clip-on handlebars as part of its focus on customer safety. One of the world's largest handlebar manufacturers has discovered potential 'stress corrosion' in two models of its clip-on handlebars (Generation 1 and Generation 2 versions). In total, Renthal has received 22 reports of cracking without any reports of injury.
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is defined as a crack-forming form of corrosion under the influence of the simultaneous action of a corrosive medium and tensile stresses. The presence of just one of these factors does not cause crack growth, but in combination this sometimes happens.
The latest generation of clip-on clamps are manufactured from a different grade of material, which offers superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and ensures that the clamps exceed Renthal's new generation tests and requirements.
In this company-initiated recall, customers are encouraged to return their Clip-ons handlebar set to receive a new Clip-on handlebar set complete with grips. The system is easy to use and is free of postage and shipping costs.
Renthal has created dedicated internet pages for the recall, with customer information on identifying the relevant specific products, an extensive FAQ page and crucial information on the return of the steering wheel. Access to the full recall page is available at www.renthal.com/clipon-return
Renthal is publicizing the recall as widely as possible through its global distribution network, motorcycle media and its own social media feeds. This commitment to safety and customer satisfaction reflects the long tradition of principles of this British company, founded in 1969 by motorcycle and engineering enthusiasts Andrew Renshaw and Henry Rosenthal.
With 193 world titles and prestigious OEM customers including Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and KTM, Renthal has always been at the forefront of R&D and innovative technology.
Rees Williams, Renthal Commercial Director, said, “We will inform as many of our customers as possible about this recall, while also making it as easy as possible for them to exchange these products for new ones. Renthal has a strong reputation for high quality and good customer service, two attributes that we feel align with this self-initiated recall.
