Pauls Jonass continues without Marc De Reuver!
20-year-old Pauls Jonass rode to his first world title this year, also a first for Latvia. Jonass won the title with driving coach Marc De Reuver at his side. De Reuver will no longer be there next year because Pauls decided to change his approach. As is known, the former Dutch top rider signed an agreement with F&H Kawasaki.
There is no doubt about the consistently high level of the Red Bull-KTM rider in 2017. Jonass achieved 15 podium finishes, the most of any GP rider. After a break, Pauls has now started training and riding again, but without Marc De Reuver.
“I no longer work with Marc and that was a difficult decision,” Pauls explains. “He's done a great job for me this year. When I sat down with my father and my manager to discuss how I could take the next step - with a view to my move to MXGP in two years' time - I decided that I needed to be a little more independent. That means I have to do more myself.”
Next year, Jonass will have two Dutch MXGP riders under the tent: Jeffrey Herlings and Glenn Coldenhoff. Jorge Prado then moves to Claudio De Carli's camp where he joins Tony Cairoli. Pauls will have his hands full with tests in the coming weeks. He will then head to the traditional winter camp and test sessions in Sardinia at the start of the new year.
“We still have a lot of work to do,” Jonass said. “After the last GP we rode in France but the intention was just to try some little things and decide which way to go with the frame. We also still have some work to do on the suspension, but I already have full confidence in my competition bike for 2018. That gives me a lot of confidence.
