Musquin does not call himself a favorite for the 2018 SX season
Red Bull KTM rider Marvin Musquin - despite a fantastic post-season - does not see himself as a top favorite for the 2018 AMA Monster Energy Supercross season. Nevertheless, Musquin will start in Anaheim on January 6 as one of the big contenders to succeed his ex-teammate Ryan Dungey as champion!
The 27-year-old Frenchman easily won the Monster Energy Cup, Red Bull Straight Rhythm and the Paris Supercross. Only the Geneva Supercross this weekend is still waiting for him! Musquin combined speed, excellent technique and great starts to beat strong competitors such as Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson.
“If you win, people may indeed start to think that you will be the next champion. But someone like Dungey never did off-season races,” Musquin laughs. In any case, Marvin already filled his bank account nicely as he won the check for $ 1 million during the Monster Cup in Las Vegas.
Despite the impressive series, the sympathetic Frenchman confirms that there is still work to be done. In anticipation of A1's SX in Paris, the premiere in the U Arena, this match was a useful test. Even though he had to interrupt Aldon Baker's boot camp training to do so. “Monster Cup is unique and so is Straight Rhythm. They can't be compared to Anaheim. Paris was a great track and a good comparison.
“Hey, it's so easy to talk,” Musquin said of the hype surrounding him. “The goal is to be the best. It is now my third year in the 450. We just want to be better.” In the 2017 SX season, Musquin stood on the 450SX podium ten times. He took two victories and finished third in the championship. Together with Tomac and Anderson, Marvin is seen as the top favorite for the Supercross season that lasts from January to May.
