WMX Team wins Team Trophy VLM in St-Huibrechts Lille
No luck for the MC Liller Treffers because the annual Team Trophy in Neerpelt had to deal with very heavy rain. The best trio of mud devils was the WMX Yamaha team with Jens Van Meer, Jonathan Banken and Dimitri Van der Sanden. Individually, Jens Getteman became the star thanks to two series victories.
Due to the condition of the track, the riders had to work hard in St-Huibrechts Lille. In the first, Jonathan Banken was the most handy ahead of teammate Van Meer, Kenny Janssens and Getteman. Since Van der Sanden finished fifth, WMX immediately laid a good foundation for their later overall victory.
But the MX477 Inters team (Janssens-Van Mieghem-Weckman) of Serge Put and Chantal Beutels was also looking forward to it! Kenny Janssens, last minute substitute for MX477, took the holeshot again in the second moto. The VLM MX1 champion only had to leave Getteman ahead. Steven De Beuckelaer came third. Jordi Van Mieghem and two-time European 150 champion Emil Weckman finished 6th and 7th respectively.
Getteman repeated his triumph from series two. The talented East Flemish rider was in the lead from start to finish. At the finish, 'the Joker' had more than 37 seconds ahead of Banken. A strong driving Steven De Beuckelaer also finished third in the final. Together with teammates Enzo Aerden and Bram Valckx from David Cools MX School, Steven finished fourth overall. Among the experienced hands of the VLM, 16-year-old Raf Meuwissen (HMX No Fear) also made himself noticed. The Dutch guest rider only switched to the 250 four-stroke, but finished 7th in the first moto.
