Thomas Chareyre wins 31st Ladbrokes Superbiker
More than 350 riders descended on Mettet this weekend for the 31st edition of the famous Superbiker. The most famous supermoto race in the world was won by the Frenchman Thomas Chareyre.
Superbike riders and enthusiasts came from all over the world to experience the unique Superbiker atmosphere. Especially since the return to the old circuit, the public is close to the action again. Although the weather was typically Belgian, almost 25.000 people descended on the Jules Tacheny circuit for three days of excitement and spectacle!
The return of legends
One of the highlights of this Ladbrokes Superbiker was without a doubt the Ladbrokes Legend Biker. The 'veterans' competed against each other for the first time with identical equipment, a TM 300cc two-stroke.
Certainly the battle for second place in the first heat between Spaniard Ruben Xaus and Gerald Delepine was more than worthwhile. In the end, Eddy Seel won ahead of Délepine and Xaus. The second race was just as animated. The Legends entertained the audience with their long slides. This time Délepine came out on top while behind him Seel and Xaus fought for second place. Eddy Seel pulled off a brilliant comeback to deal with Xaus. Ultimately, the former Supermoto world champion would end up just 278 thousandths of a second behind Délepine…
Juniors in the spotlight
If the legends managed to charm the audience, they went all out for the juniors. This class, which was introduced last year, once again provided a good battle. Barry Baltus, the 2016 winner, received a major challenger in the person of Gabin Planques. At the end of the second chrono session, Planques clocked a time of 1'22”215 0.139 seconds ahead of Baltus! The race exceeded all expectations. A fierce battle developed between Barry Baltus and Gabin Planques. A four-stroke against a two-stroke, changing positions round after round and suspense all the way! After a millimeter sprint, Zelos / Classic21 pilot Balthus took the victory ahead of Planques and Nils Kessen.
On the cutting edge
The supermoto specialists started with a high-level joust right from the time training. However, three drivers stood out: Markus Class, Lukas Höllbacher and Thomas Chareyre. After a race of almost 30 minutes, Thomas Chareyre crossed the line as the winner. Austrian Lukas Höllbacher followed less than a second and German Markus Class completed the podium of the 31st Ladbrokes Superbiker. In the Starbiker class, our brand new MotoGP star Xavier Siméon showed that he can also handle supermoto. Xav beat Ruben Xaus and Loris Cresson.
Ladbrokes Superquader: A spectacle of the highest order
The quad bike riders also gave us an impressive show! When pushing the limits, the quad specialists proved themselves to be masters of drifting as well! Maxim Cluydts actually dominated here the entire weekend. The Belgian quad topper also finished the job in the Ladbrokes Superquader, leaving only crumbs for his opponents. Cluydts eventually won by more than 16 seconds ahead of Alfred Wolber and Rolf Forrer.
Super biker final
