The story of: Dietger Damiaens
Last weekend, not only Sara Leyssens managed to secure her title in the JMS, but Dietger also felt that he could not stay behind. Dietger was crowned Belgian MX1 champion at the BMB, completing the party at the Damiaens-Leyssens home.
Dietger Damiaens: My season didn't start well. Due to my knee injury, I had fallen behind a lot in training, and the first matches did not go as expected. It went better and better race by race, and from the Dutch Masters in Oss I rode at a decent level again. Only my starts and falls still cost me many places, but by winning 4 crosses in the VLM I gradually regained my self-confidence. During the black cross I was also in the top 10 twice, and I felt ready to start the second part of the BMB calendar. I managed to win in Axel and the other BMB competitions also went according to plan, allowing me to go to the last competition in Baisieux with a lead. In between, the Lommel GP was also on the programme. It was quite an experience to experience that. I have learned a lot from it, and I am very grateful to the people who gave me this opportunity. To end my season, perhaps the most important competition of the season was on the program, namely the BMB final in Baisieux. I managed to stay calm under the pressure and keep my wits about me, which is how I managed to win the title. A nice end to the season.
