VMCF: Roy Sillien stops victory king Weigert
Leo Thomas' club had planned a nice circuit in Wambeek and the organization was rewarded with a very busy weekend. The Oldtimers had a wonderful day on Saturday and the finals of a number of youth series were on the program on Sunday.
The inters had to contest their heats with the Nationals in the three series for the youth classes and that ensured that the starting gates were more than filled. Frederic Weigert was immediately able to claim the holeshot ahead of Gianni Van Dievel and Jeremy Joris. A number of top riders had to start from the second starting line and that created a spectacle in the first rounds. This resulted in a fall for Jochem Walckiers and especially a heavy bounce for Jerome Benonit. Meanwhile, Frederic Weigert was pushing ahead at the front, while Jermey Joris disappeared from the race with mechanical problems. The closest pursuer to the new champion Frederic Weigert was Roy Sillien, who rode to the front from fifteenth place. However, refusing to threaten was no longer an option. Karel Schepmans saw his Honda break down during training and rode a spare Kawasaki to a brilliant third place ahead of Gianni Van Dievel who had taken over fourth place from Donny Schmidt who was set back due to mechanical problems. Damon Goyvaert finished very well in fifth ahead of the revelation of the heat, Steve Foucart.
In the final series, Roy Silien was no longer surprised at the start and immediately took the holeshot ahead of Frederic Weigert and Karel Schepmans. Meanwhile, the start went wrong for Kevin Peetermans who crashed in the first corner. Roy Sillien's pace was so blisteringly high that the Suzuki rider would no longer tolerate anything or anyone near him. Karel Schepmans apparently found his way on the Kawasaki because he finished third again ahead of Jeremy Joris who was able to pass Jochem Walckiers on the last lap. Victory in the MX2 class went to a great Brent Bourleau while Bastien Houche became the best B rider. Steve Foucart and Elvin Vervaeren were the laureates at the Nationals.
Next weekend the VMCF will have their final competition in Veulen. The last champions are also honored there.
