VLM: Inters MX1 title for Kenny Janssens!
Kenny Janssens finished the job today in Broechem! The Racing Center KTM not only gained mathematical certainty about the title today in the organization of the MC Stroeckx Friends, it also won the second round. In the first series, Dietger Damiaens took the flowers. Jens Van Meer came second today thanks to a third and second place. MX2 champion Jonathan Banken was once again the strongest!
In the timed training, Dietger Damiaens clocked a gun time that was 1,1 seconds faster than Jens Van Meer, while Janssens had the fifth fastest time. Damiaens also took the lead in the first heat. However, the Dam Racing KTM rider did not start very well. The fact that he braked to death after a few laps could not spoil the plans either. Kenny Janssens did what he had to and took the 22 points!
The second heat would be a triumph for Janssens! Damiaens now had a good start but made three mistakes. Kenny, on the other hand, went around with the regularity of a Swiss clock. As an added bonus, he also achieved the fastest lap of the race. The Keerbergen native thus took his fifth series victory of the championship. Janssens was met by his colorfully dressed supporters and was allowed to uncork the champagne. An impressive Jonathan Banken drove his quarter liter to second place overall ahead of Jens Van Meer. The CKP Racing Kawasaki rider fought to the end and can take the vice-championship title as a consolation prize. SEC Construction rider Kevin Van Geldrop now finished fourth.
There is still a fierce battle for the vice title in MX2 between Kevin Schellens, who is adding a strong finishing touch to his championship, and Jordi Van Mieghem. Schellens came second today and Van Mieghem's engine trouble from last weekend could well have had an impact on the final score! Next weekend the final of the VLM Championship will be held in Lummen.
