Thomas Covington best MX2 mud devil in France
The American Thomas Covington has won the last Grand Prix of the season. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider was the most agile rider in the mud and on the slippery track. Covington was the best in the opening heat and came second in the closing heat, which was enough for his second GP victory of the season. Hunter Lawrence who won the second series, which was also his very first in the MX2 class, took second place on the podium. Third place went to HRC Honda rider Jed Beaton who, after Hunter Lawrence, was also the second Australian on the podium in Villars sous Escot.
Suzuki World MX2 rider Jeremy Seewer (2-5) lost a podium place in the very last round due to a fall and therefore ended up just off the podium in this final Grand Prix. Pauls Jonass, who secured the world title in the first series, finished fifth and fourth in the series. On the Belgian side we can be brief and Julien Lieber scored sixth place in the first series and Nathan Renkens took a nice 13th place, which was also his best result of the season. In the second series neither driver scored again. For Brent Van Doninck, the Sunday ride was dramatic with a retirement in the first heat and did not even start in the second heat. In the final standings of the world championship we get two compatriots in the top ten with Julien Lieber in sixth place and Brent Van Doninck in tenth place.
