Is Suzuki also dropping out of the MXGP World Championship?
Although little official communication has been released yet, it has already become clear that Suzuki will officially withdraw from the MX2 World Championship. According to the well-informed Günter Wiesinger from Speedweek, Suzuki would also quit the premier class, the MXGP!
Ordered before Hunter Lawrence, Bas Vaessen en Zach Pichon there will be no room at Suzuki next year. In the MXGP announced Kevin Strijbos has already announced his farewell to the yellow brand. Reported this afternoon Gunther Wiesinger, ex-editor-in-chief Motorsport Aktuell, in speedweek that Suzuki would also withdraw from the MXGP next year! The Austrian journalist is not the first, by the way. He has a long and solid track record and excellent contacts.
Naturally, this news comes as a bolt from the blue for the drivers. Both Armin Jasikonis as a Jeremy Seewer would be without a team as a result. Also for the GRP team Stefan Everts took over from Sylvain Geboers, this is dramatic news. After all, Suzuki was the team's most important customer for decades. The decision to withdraw from the MXGP was already announced internally at the end of August during the MotoGP Silverstone race. According to Wiesinger, mechanics and riders from Suzuki World MXGP would also be aware in the meantime because they have already registered with other teams.
Everything on MotoGP?
A possible reason for this drastic round of cuts is the need for a budget to... GSX-RR further development to make Suzuki more competitive in MotoGP... We are still waiting for an official response from Suzuki World MXGP or GRP. Earlier this summer it was announced that Suzuki's official American team is moving from R. C. H. Suzuki to JGR, Joe Gibbs Racing. Once again it remains to be seen whether the full lecture as delivered by Günther Wiesinger will also turn out as indicated.
In addition, it has been proven many times in motorsport that a withdrawal from most major championships is often temporary. Suzuki also put all official motorsport activities on hold in 1983. However, the least you can say is that there are a lot of problems at Suzuki. So will definitely be continued!!
