MXON: France wins Qualifying, Belgium seventh…
The team from France with Romain Febvre (Open), Gautier Paulin (MXGP) and Christophe Charlier (MX2) have won the Qualifying Race for the 71st Motocross of Nations in the English Matterley Basin.
The French team took second place in the MXGP classes with Paulin and Febvre also finished second in his Open class. This allowed them to drop Charlier's eighth place and thus narrowly became the winner for the Dutch team. The Dutch, with Jeffrey Herlings as series winner in the Open class and a third place by Brian Bogers in the MX2, scored the same number of points, but Febvre's second place in the Open class was the deciding factor in France's favor. Third place was a surprise for the Australian team with a second place from Hunter Lawrence in the MX2 and an equally good fourth place from Kirk Gibbs in the Open Class.
Seventh place for Team Belgium…
The Belgian team with Jeremy Van Horebeek (MXGP), Kevin Strijbos (Open) and Brent Van Doninck (MX2) finished these qualifications in seventh place. Jeremy Van Horebeek took an impressive fifth place in the opening series for the MXGP men. Brent Van Doininck, who is riding his trusted 250 this year, entered the top ten after a difficult start, but made a mistake a little later and eventually finished 18th. This immediately put the pressure on the shoulders of Kevin Strijbos in the Open class. Like the other Belgians, Strijbos had to start on the outside after the draw (34th), but was already nicely in the top ten after the opening round. Ultimately, the Suzuki rider took sixth place, which put Belgium in seventh place after the Qualifying Races.
