MCLB Zegelsem: Jeffrey Dewulf came, saw and conquered!
The MCLB competition in Zegelsem was looked forward to with more than usual interest. Enough reasons with a very nice circuit, a strong field of participants and of course the resumption of the championship at the Inters! Jeffrey Dewulf won both heats with superior power. Wietse Brackman was a close second (2-3) while guest driver Kevin Fors (5-2) rode to a deserved podium. The loser of the day was David Segers, he only finished 10th.
Circuit Donkweg could count on unanimous praise from the drivers. Many riders described the circuit in Zegelsem as one of the most beautiful MCLB circuits they had ever ridden on! So a big, big compliment to the organisers Opel Roelant-Roman team for the - literally - mountains of work they do.
Also Jeffrey Dewulf felt very happy on this spectacular circuit. In the first heat “JD123” started seventh and then looked for fast starter Brackman. Wietse was - as we have seen so often - immediately joined by David Segers. The two were evenly matched until the third lap, but then the Standing Construct-Geeco Bikes KTM rider made a mistake! It took a while before Segers, who had seriously injured himself, was gone again. David was knocked back to 27th place due to his fall.
After four laps Dewulf moved up to second place, four laps later leader Brackman was also killed. The Motorshop Desmet KTM pilot then created an impressive lead of 30 seconds. Wietse held on to second place but both Jorne Tytgat as a Torpjurn Van Hoe ended up pretty close. After a poor start he recovered Kevin Fors felt good, the ex Belgian MX2 champion rode from 14th to 5th.
Tim Vandriessche was again the strongest MX2 pilot in Zegelsem. In the first heat he even hung fifth among the big guns! He then drops back to seventh, but unfortunately he had to settle for 11th place due to a mistake in the final lap. In the second series Tim would again finish tenth overall. Segers fought back the pain to still manage a 17th place.
Segers limits the damage
Although he has to come back more often, the picture in the second heat has been right from the start for Fors. After all, he was now in the lead with Brackman and Deleersnijder in his wake. Dewulf also had a better start. Jeffrey was again one size too strong and defeated Fors in the fifth round. Due to the dust and the less favorable track conditions, the riders built up more margin, but the battle for places of honor was no less important! Also Jurgen Wybo was able to enjoy himself in Zegelsem and was now 'Best of the rest' after Dewulf-Fors-Brackman. Combined with sixth place in race one, the likeable Leon Sagaert-Husqvarna rider finished just off the podium. Robin Bakens had his best result of the day with fifth place.
Hampered by his painful hip, championship leader Segers rode with one goal: to limit the damage as much as possible. David achieved sixth place and did not have to give up too many points to Brackman. It remains very exciting in the championship standings! Wietse obviously made up some points on David after today, so 'Mad Dave' still leads, but the difference is minimal. According to our calculations, Segers now leads Brackman by 18 points. One thing for sure is the 'Mad Dave' Vs. 'Wacko Brack' story is not over yet! In addition, all riders may drop the two worst heats before the final in Pamel...
