KTM Freeride 250F: ultimate toy!?
KTM is tackling the four-stroke version of the Freeride for 2018. Until this year, the Freeride had a 350cc engine block. For the 2018 model year this is a 250cc single-cylinder block. We are talking about the 250 F, a four-stroke model.
KTM presented the Freeride at the time - the first model dates back to six years ago - as a cheaper and more accessible alternative to the brand's competition-oriented four-stroke enduro machines. With the switch from a 350cc to 250cc engine, KTM is not only downsizing but also rowing against the current. Some other important features of the Freeride: It is remarkably quiet and the comfortable low profile also offers a lot of confidence for the occasional off-road rider.
KTM is launching the Freeride 2018F for the 250 model year and we can therefore speak of a major update. The original philosophy of an accessible and manageable enduro machine was not affected. This pure fun bike is also suitable for trial-like work. In addition to a refresh of the appearance with new graphics, the update also includes a new WP Xplor upside-down front fork. The tubular steel frame underwent some changes and is now lighter than before. The empty weight is 98,5 kg.
KTM also tackled the engine block. It became more compact, lighter and shorter. According to KTM, the new block is about 20 mm shorter than the previous one. In this way, the mass centralization of the Freeride 250 F is optimized. In terms of engine character, KTM still emphasizes torque to ensure smooth and linear power delivery. According to KTM's off-road marketing manager, Joachim Sauer, the engineers had a lot of fun developing the Freeride 250 F. With a suitability that includes trial obstacles, enduro work and commuting, KTM can call it a real all-rounder! It already sounds like music to our ears.
The new Freeride 250 F has recently arrived at the KTM dealer. It is not clear whether KTM is also working on a replacement for the current 250cc two-stroke version of the Freeride, but we can imagine that there will be a 250cc TPI two-stroke version.
