KTM Diga Junior Racing ends emotional EMX season!
The Kempen KTM Diga Junior Racing team concluded the 2017 EMX season last weekend in Villars sous-Ecot, France. On a slippery, muddy track, WMX guest rider Avrie Berry achieved the best result. The young American finished neatly 11th in the second moto. Tomas Kohut and Roni Kytonen did not score any points.
From a podium place and overall victory in the first two European Championship rounds with Miro Sihvonen until the dramatic conclusion in Villars, 2017 was an intense rollercoaster for KTM Diga Junior Racing! The Villars-sous-Ecot circuit, near the Swiss border, mainly gained fame with the legendary Motocross of Nations of 1988. Under normal, dry conditions, the compact, hilly hard course would be a dream ending for the EMX250 championship.
Unfortunately, heavy rain during the weekend decided this very differently. The Finn was super motivated after his great results in his own country Roni Kytonen end his European Championship season in style. In the time training, Roni was barely 0,006 seconds short of direct qualification. In the repechage Kytonen left a good impression, but his 13th place was not enough to qualify. Although teammate Kohut did better in the repechage with a fifth place, Lady Fortuna would also let him down in the heats.
In the first moto Tomas, who was 13th at one point, crashed and damaged his radiator so much that he had to give up. Like many other riders, the Slovakian ran into problems on the slippery big climb where he got stuck. Ultimately he had to give up again. A final in a minor key for the Kohut, which achieved a strong end to the season.
De American WMX competitor Avrie Berry crossed the finish line in 24th place in the first race. In the very muddy second heat, Avrie continued with character. After her first points in Assen, she added 10 points to her World Cup total.
This weekend weekend is waiting Tom Kohut during the last ADAC round in Holzgerlingen, Germany, a final big test for the MX of Nations. The Nations, also called the Called the 'Motocross Olympics', they will take place on September 30 and October 1 in Matterley Basin, Great Britain.
Dirk Saelen, KTM Diga Junior Racing team owner and team manager: “It was terrible to see all the drivers suffering so much in terribly unrewarding circumstances. Anyone who has ever ridden a cross or enduro motorcycle knows that it is no joke to ride such a slippery hill circuit. Still, Roni (Kytonen) did well. He was close to qualifying in the timed training, but unfortunately he did not receive any wages for his work in the retake. He probably had his best rematch of the season, but it is clear that it is difficult for him to reach his best level under pressure. For Tomas (Kohut), this weekend was one to quickly forget. Hopefully he can go to the MXoN with a good feeling after this weekend. I can imagine that Villars was one of the toughest tests of her career for Avrie. But she did well and we are proud of her perseverance. Avrie has shown that she is a go-getter. This experience, in a field with the fastest girls in the world, will only make her stronger!”
