KEMEA Yamaha Race Report (Villars sous Ecot)
The last GP of the 2017 season took place last weekend on the hillsides of Villars sous écot. This is Benoit Paturel's home circuit, so people have been looking forward to this race for a while to finish on a high note. Unfortunately, Benoit's serious injury threw a spanner in the works and the goal was adjusted. Benoit was nevertheless present in Villars to encourage his teammates and help them clear their way through the large mud pit.
Heavy rain showers on Saturday afternoon turned the beautiful circuit into a real mud bath, which completely changed the conditions for the riders. In the qualifying match Brent got off to a bad start and fell to the back of the ranks. However, he recovered very quickly and started a strong comeback. Despite being hit in the face by stones, he finished seventh. Alvin had a good start but soon had to deal with problems with glasses and poor vision. He made a mistake and fell back many places. Ultimately, the Swede crossed the line in 16th place.
The weather did not really improve on Sunday which made the circuit difficult and very treacherous for the riders. After a few mistakes in the opening rounds of the first series, Brent soon had to throw away his glasses and twisted his knee in one of the deep ruts. He tried to continue driving but eventually left the race. He was in too much pain and decided not to start in the second moto. Alvin showed that he feels good in these conditions and rode a strong race to finish ninth.
In the very last heat of the season, Alvin rode within the top ten for most of the race, but after a mistake he lost a few places and fell to 13th place. Alvin ended the season with a tenth place in the day's results and came 14th in the final standings of the World Championship. Despite the fact that Brent did not score any points this weekend, he retains his tenth place in the World Championship standings. Benoit, for his part, had no luck on his side a few weeks ago when he was third in the World Cup standings. He missed the last three races and ultimately finished fifth in the World Championship standings of his last MX2 season.
Alvin Ostlund: “Although the course in Villars is not really my thing, I did have fun in these muddy conditions. I felt good on the bike all weekend and due to some mistakes I missed some nice results. Ultimately, it is good to end the season with a top 10 ranking. I'm already looking forward to preparing for the MXON in two weeks!”
