Jeffrey Herlings wins Grand Prix at home in Assen
Jeffrey Herlings has convincingly won the Grand Prix of the Netherlands. The Dutchman gave his home crowd a nice afternoon on the constructed sand track at the TT Circuit of Assen. There was simply nothing to be done against the Red Bull KTM rider, especially in the second series. In the first heat he faced some resistance from the new MXGP World Champion Antonio Cairoli and had to battle it out with his teammate to the finish. Yet Jeffrey Herlings already took his fifth win of the season.
Second place went to the Frenchman Romain Febvre, who finished with an equal number of points together with Max Anstie, but because the final series was decisive, Febvre was classified as number two. Antonio Cairoli, who took the world title in the first series after an exciting battle to the finish with series winner Jeffrey Herlings, finished sixth in the second series, which put him just off the podium. But what was more important for Cairoli is that he was able to secure his ninth world title in the first series.
Strijbos and Van Horebeek score top five places, Desalle sustains an injury…
Kevin Strijbos took fifth and seventh place in the heats, which put him in sixth place in the GP final standings. Jeremy Van Horebeek did not reach the finish in the first series, but rode to a nice fifth place in the second series. The Grand Prix in Assen was a downer for Clement Desalle, in the first series Desalle was in sixth place when he crashed and had to retire due to an injury. In the second series the Monster Energy Kawaski rider did not even start. Damon Graulus took seven points and Jeremy Delince was good for four points. Ken De Dijcker and Bryan Boulard returned scoreless from the north of the Netherlands.
