Jeffrey Herlings is now also winning in the French mud bath
Jeffrey Herlings seems unstoppable at the end of the season... now during the Grand Prix of Pays De Montbéliard (France) it was Herlings who took victory again. Under very difficult conditions on the beautiful circuit of Villars sous Ecot, Herlings showed that he can't be beat, even in the mud. In the first series he took third place, but in the second series he fought back after a fall and with a tough duel with Max Anstie to the overall victory.
Tim Gajser, who won the opening series, quickly had to accept the mastery of Anstie and Herlings in the second series and had to be satisfied with a second place on the podium. For third place on the podium we got Max Anstie who led almost the entire second series but still had to bow to Jeffrey Herlings in the final phase. Home riders Romain Febvre (2-5) and Gautier Paulin (5-6) just missed the podium in Villars sous Esot. World champion Antonio Cairoli had clearly partied too much after winning his 9th world title and only finished 9th in the first heat.
Suzuki World MXGP rider Kevin Strijbos rode a strong first heat and crossed the finish line in sixth place after a fall at the start. In the second series Strijbos rode to eighth place, which gave him sixth place overall. Jeremy Van Horebeek took eighth and ninth place in the heats. Damon Graulus scored seven points during this mudfest. In the final standings of the world championship we find Clement Desalle in fourth place and Jeremy Van Horebeek finishes seventh. Kevin Strijbos ended up in fifteenth place after some injuries. The 24MX Honda duo with Ken De Dijcker (22) and Damon Graulus (23) fall just outside the top 20.
