Graulus seventeenth in tough MXGP Assen
After a difficult month in August, Damon Graulus ended the Dutch GP motocross in Assen on a positive note. The 24MX Honda rider rode the very tough course to a 17th and 18th place, placing him 17th in the final standings.
Two days of very heavy rain made for an unpredictable track on Saturday. In many places the circuit was heavy and swampy. In other places, on the other hand, it was still surprisingly dry. Graulus started the qualifying race in 23rd place. Damon didn't have the best start but was able to climb well. In a duel with Sven Van Der Mierden, the 24MX Honda rider went off quite hard. Because it took a long time before he could continue driving, he left the race.
Although the weather was much better on Sunday, the course remained very difficult, which was no surprise given the five-class program. From last place in the first heat, Graulus was able to come back to 17th place at the finish. Although he had a much better start in the second series, Damon, who won the EMX2015 race in Assen in 250, was unable to capitalize on that favorable starting position. After Graulus started 14th, he came in 18th.
Damon Graulus: “I am satisfied with the weekend. It's a pity that I fell on Saturday, but I felt strong again this weekend. All physical discomfort disappeared, except for my thumb injury. The first series was slightly better than the second. In the first moto I was held up at the start but I was able to come back well. Although I had a better start in the second race, I had a bit of a hard time in the first laps. Next weekend I would like to end the GP season well in France.”
Next weekend the 2017 Motocross World Championship will take place in Villars-sous-Ecot, France.
