Anstie and Lawrence win Qualifying Races in France
The Qualifying Races for the Grand Prix of Pays De Montbéliard were completed today in Villars sous Escot, France. Due to a heavy rain shower an hour before qualifying, the circuit became very slippery and muddy. Hunter Lawrence (MX2) and Max Anstie (MXGP) clearly had less difficulty with these difficult conditions and each won their Qualifying Race.
In the MXGP Qualifying we had a battle until the final laps between home rider Romain Febvre and Max Anstie. It was the British Max Anstie who took the holeshot, but after two laps Febvre managed to take the lead from the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider. In the meantime, there was also a battle for third place with Gautier Paulin, our compatriot Kevin Strijbos and Jeffrey Herlings. Yet it was Herlings who finished third, more than 25 seconds ahead of Paulin and Strijbos. As of the final lap, Anstie managed to take back the lead from Febvre to drive to his first MXGP Qualifying victory. Jeremy Van Horebeek came in at number ten and Damon Graulus just made it into the top 20. World champion Antonio Cairoli finished 13th.
Australian Hunter Lawrence took victory in the MX2 Qualifying Race without any problem. The Suzuki World MX2 rider took the holeshot and proved himself to be the best mud rider of the entire MX2 pack. Lawrence won with a lead of almost 25 seconds over second man Pauls Jonass. Third place went to Brian Bogers who preceded the second Australian in the top five Jed Beaton and teammate Davy Pootjes. In seventh place we had our first compatriot with Brent Van Doninck, ahead of the Swiss Jeremy Seewer and Julien Lieber, who finished ninth. Finally, Nathan Renkens crossed the finish line in 21st place.
