Dietger Damiaens wins VLM Lummen
Today the final at the VLM was on the program with Lummen. The champions were already known with Kenny Janssens (MX1) and Jonathan Banken (MX2), but that did not alter the fact that there would still be a fight for victory today.
In the first series it was David Foguenne who was the fastest out of the starting blocks. However, he could not enjoy his leading position for long, because after four laps it was Kenny Janssens who took over command. For two rounds it looked like Janssens was going to further emphasize his title by also taking the flowers in Lummen, but that was without the exception of Jonathan Banken, who was driving extremely well. Banken outclassed all 250s on his 450cc motorcycle, winning series one. Only Dietger Damiaens managed to get close to Banken after a mediocre start, crossing the finish line in second place at just under two seconds.
A similar scene took place in series two, although this time it was Greg Smets who led the field after the start. Once again it was Kenny Janssens who quickly found his way into the lead, but just as quickly had to relinquish it to an unleashed Dietger Damiaens. Damiaens did not relinquish the lead and, thanks to this victory in series two, he was also certain of winning the day in Lummen. In MX2, despite a mistake in series two, the victory went to Jonathan Banken, who ended his championship in style.
