Tim Gajser returns to victory in the MXGP
Tim Gajser is back… The Slovenian MXGP World Champion of 2016 is back to winning ways after his injuries. The HRC Honda rider won the opening series in Uddevalla and only had to finish second behind Romain Febvre to take the overall victory of the Swedish Grand Prix. This was Gajser's third GP victory of the season and it had already been the last time he had a taste of victory at the Grand Prix of Mexico.
Second place went to Monster Energy Yamaha rider Romain Febvre who took his very first podium of the season. Febvre was already in the lead in the first heat when he made a mistake and only finished sixth. In the second series, the Frenchman did well with his first series victory of the season. The third podium place also went to France with Gautier Paulin who twice crossed the finish line as number three.
The most unlucky person in Sweden was the Dutchman Jeffrey Herlings, who finished second in the opening series behind winner Tim Gajser. But in the second series he had to give up when he had just completed a duel with Gajser for second place when he suffered mechanical problems and the series was over for Herlings. This all turned out well for Antonio Cairoli after a poor match with ninth and seventh place in the series, but he is still four points ahead of the unfortunate Jeffrey Herlings.
Clement Desalle just off the podium… Van Horebeek nicely in the top ten
Clement Desalle kept the Belgian honor high by finishing fourth twice, but just missing the podium in Uddevalla. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider remains in fourth place in the standings. But Jeremy Van Horebeek also rode a decent race with a seventh and sixth place in the heats, which put him sixth overall. Kevin Strijbos was good for eight points and the 24MX Honda duo Ken De Dijcker and Damon Graulus were also able to bring home five and four points from Sweden.
